The design of this website has been greatly inspired by, and in some ways derived from, Facebook Timeline. This has come from the fact that, at the time of writing this (12th December 2011), Facebook Timeline has not been made available to business or "like" pages. The design has been used in the creation of a Wordpress Theme, but has not (to my knowledge) been created in standard HTML and / or jQuery for developers to use. Every piece of code for the general theme of this website has been written by hand, and plugins have been used to recreate elements (re: Fancybox to replace the Facebook image lightbox). Whilst some of the colours may be identitcal to their Facebook Timeline coutnerparts (intentionally so), these too have been coded by hand after sampling from their appropriate area. It is, however, a "parody" and "appropriation" of Facebook Timeline, and neither the website and the owner are affiliated with Facebook in any way, shape or form. The owner, Nathan Bunn, makes no apology for the use of the design as such a profound inspiration, but will, at the request of any authorised person from Facebook, alter and replace the design.

Why Facebook Timeline?

The Internet is moving further and faster into the Social Media arena, and sites such as Facebook and Twitter are championing this seismic shift. Social Media greatly interests me. The original notion of the Six Degrees of Separation (now approximately 3.74 degrees, thanks to Facebook) has intrigued me, and the launch of Facebook and Twitter makes that separation even smaller. Facebook rolled out their Timeline feature to developers on September 22nd 2011 amd to a wider audience on 6th December 2011 (starting on that date in New Zealand). It allowed users to see their entire history on Facebook, as far back as the day they joined. At the time of writing this (12th December 2011), Facebook Timeline was not available in the UK on a wider scale, nor was it available in any country for business pages. Also, the ability to see as far back as the day I started designing was something I wanted to convey. Using the idea and design of Facebook Timeline seemed like a natural thing.
